There's a UFO in My Yard...

That's right, I said it, a UFO.

No, I'm not one of those folks who wears a metal colander to keep "Them" from reading my brainwaves, and my windows are not decorated with curtains made of tin foil...

I have an Unidentified Flowering Object in my front yard.

When the subject is horticulture, I am as sad and pathetic as they come. A complete idiot. When I buy plants I have to keep those plastic name/planting directions tags with the plant or else I can't for the life of me remember what the heck it is. That's also helps me remember what is a weed and what is a plant, so when I do a slash and burn in my flowerbed I don't kill the stuff I've paid for.

Anyway, I was weeding this morning and came across this guy:

Now, I have Columbine, which looks like this:

And the leaves on the new guy kind of resemble those of the Columbine:

Columbine leaves

but,

I don't remember buying this plant, and there's no plastic tag around to tell me what it is. So...

If you have any idea, could you clue me in? Then I'll know if I should pull it or enjoy it.

And thanks, because you know it takes a village to raise an idiot.

Who cares what it is. Enjoy it! It's beautiful. I let weeds grow in my garden if they're pretty. Technically a weed is anything that pops up where it wasn't purposefully planted. So, maybe it is a "weed", but it's pretty. Plus you know it's hardy and grows well in that spot which is more than you can say for most bought flowers. I say, enjoy your freebie and let it live!

cousehow - if you switch the c and h it becomes house cow.

Looks like a double columbine to me. But no matter what it is, I'd leave it there because it's pretty. And I'm not much for weeding, whether it's pretty or not. :-)

gang, I think Randi hit it correctly- double columbine. Now I just wish I knew how it got there.

And Griffox, my need to know exactly what it is and how it got there stems from my anal-retentiveness...:)

Sorry, that should have said "Thanks gang...

That's what I get for typing in the dark...

No idea what it is, but the leaves look as if they might taste good.

Been over to facebook. What a boring and annoying place. Won't go back. But have reserved my favorite fake name.

Probably those flower fairies. Just today I found a daylily growing where I've never had daylilies.

Or maybe a bird was kind enough to eat the seed and "deliver" it. :-)

Ro, who has much more practic le gardening experience than I, came over Wednesday morning and confirmed that it is indeed a double columbine. I still don't know how it got there... I have 4. Them birds musta been crapping overtime, Randi.
